Alternative Cook Goal — To Appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

November 16th, 2009 by Jean Duane

In June, 2009 Ellen DeGeneres said on her show that she had been gluten-free for two weeks and felt much better. In October, I asked my board to envision me on Ellen to discuss Bake Deliciously! Gluten and Dairy Free Cookbook. My board members believe in “The Power of Attraction” and said they would “Think Alternative Cook on Ellen”.
Meanwhile, Ellen appeared on Oprah and recapped Ellen’s quest to get on the cover of O magazine with Oprah. Toward that end, Ellen has done mockups of herself on covers throughout the year. What a great idea — to “put it out there” like that. And it worked! She is on the cover of O Magazine this month. Ellen’s visualization and persistence paid off. Rather than just limiting the goal to appear on the Ellen DeGeneres show to just my board, I decided to make it official by stating it to the world in a press release. Think Alternative Cook on Ellen.

My motivation stems from wanting to help people suffering unknowingly with food intolerances. Six times from 2003-2005, I had a mysterious full-bodied, itchy, puffy, blistery rash that put me in the emergency room the first time where seven different doctors looked at me and scratched their heads. The ER doctors agreed that it was a “systemic chemical reaction” and tried to identify what chemicals I could have been exposed to. It could have been the beautiful pine tree in the back yard, the fertilizer on the ground, something I was breathing, a prescription, a chemical I was exposed to (but nobody ever mentioned food). For THREE YEARS, between hiding from the world for the ten days of intense itching and the six weeks it took my skin to heal after an outbreak (and buying every season of clothes with long sleeves, and wondering what on earth could be causing this) I saw numerous dermatologists, internists, gastroenterologists, allergists and chiropractors. After 98 needle sticks (who’s counting), eight biopsies, and invasive scopes and did I mention THREE YEARS of suffering, it was finally determined that gluten was causing all of these problems. I want to help others who may be experiencing mysterious ailments to connect the dots to suspect the foods they are eating.
So, world, I need your help. Please envision me on The Ellen DeGeneres Show talking about Bake Deliciously! Gluten and Dairy Free Cookbook to enhance Ellen’s life with glorious gluten (and dairy) free baked items, and to spread the word to her viewing audience who may be struggling with dietary restrictions and/or food allergies. I’m here to help. My theme song for this endeavor is “This Little Light Of Mine, I’m Gonna Let It Shine”. Stay tuned, we may record it!
